Maybe it's because I've been setting up our new computer, reinstalling apps and documents and whatnot, but lately I've been absolutely fascinated by fonts. Huh? Fascinated by fonts. No joke. I've always been interested in different fonts, and what makes one font so appealing, and others not so appealing (Papyrus font, I'm looking in your direction). I've "discovered" several excellent font sites, which I shall share below:
  • Google Fonts: Of course Google's gotta have a place to find fonts. Google Fonts has upwards of 800 fonts, which you can test out right on the page. Handy.
  • Fonts2U.com: This site has all kinds of cool fonts, organized by type (cartoon, horror, serif, sans serif, etc.)
  • Fontspace: Fontspace is handy because you can set up a free account, and mark your fave fonts with a little heart, so you can go back and find them later.
  • CoolText.com: This is the site that got me started down this road of font fascination. They've got loads of wild looking fonts, and a function where you can convert fonts into groovy logos. My kids love this one.
  • 1001Fonts: They actually seem to have over eight thousand fonts, and it's a nicely laid out site, easy to search.  Just one more font source.
Of course, I didn't stop with fonts. After I played around with some of the fun fonts I discovered on the pages above (a Sega font, a Disney font, a Jurassic Park font, and much more!), I began to think about how desktop publishing applications use that fake Latin text called "Lorem ipsum" to demonstrate layouts. You've seen it, no doubt: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit..." And so on.

Well, it turns out, there are dozens (maybe more) of sites that are Lorem ipsum generators: you decide how many paragraphs of dummy text you want, and the generator spits it out for you. But wait, there's more! There are all kinds of fun Lorem ipsum generators out there: Pirate Ipsum, TV Ipsum, Hodor Ipsum (for Game of Thrones fans--it just puts the word "Hodor" in paragraphs with random punctuation), and even one called "Slipsum," which compiles Samuel L. Jackson quotes into paragraphs. Or check out this text generated by Heisenberg Ipsum (for fans of Breaking Bad):
Suspicio? Bene ... tunc ibimus? Quis uh ... CONEXUS locus his diebus? Quisque semper aliquid videtur, in volutpat mauris. Nolo enim dicere. Vobis neque ab aliis. Ego feci memetipsum explicans. Gus mortuus est. Lorem opus habeo.

Jackson Isai? Tu quoque ... A te quidem a ante. Vos scitis quod blinking res Ive 'been vocans super vos? Et conteram illud, et conteram hoc. Maledicant druggie excors. Iam hoc tu facere conatus sum ad te in omni tempore?

Yes, I can play with this kind of thing for a long time. Don't judge me.
